Q. I can't get any audio options to work with my GUS other than "master volume".

A. The other options are only used for Soundblaster cards.

Q. How can I improve the sound quality when using a Soundblaster?

A. Increase the mixing rate using the "audio settings" section of the in-game menus. Note, however, that many Soundblaster "clone" cards can't correctly set mixing rates higher than 23KHz.

Q. What does the filter setting do in the in-game audio menu?

A. Some old Soundblasters allow a filter to be switched on in order to reduce noise. Later models use dynamic filtering and don't require this setting.

Q. On Vulcan Venture, it sounds like some of the audio voices are out of tune.

A. As mentioned above, many Soundblaster clones don't work correctly at mixing rates higher than 23KHz. Try reducing the rate in the "audio settings" menu.
